FRANKENRAIL
"FARFRUMLOSIN"
So, it's been a while since we've updated the "frankenrail" pages.
Mike's been busy getting the car stripped down and ready for powdercoat, then
re-assembling the entire rail and turbocharging the engine. The name of the
rail has also changed; no longer shall it be known as "frankenrail"
From this point forward, in the grand VW tradition of funny names, it shall
be known to all as "Farfrumlosin"
|
Before powdercoat, there should be a wing. Here's a cardboard
mock-up of the wing that will be built out of aluminum. |
|
Here's the Aluminum wing, it was made from 4 pieces of aluminum, welded
along the top and riveted with angle pieces inside as a support. |
|
Mike drilled a bunch of holes in the wing and added a ton of bright
LED's for a tail light. |
|
Here's a mock-up of the side panels. Very easy to do yourself, just
make a cardboard template, cut it out with a plasma cutter or jigsaw,
or have it sheared to size at the metal yard. Then mount your dzus tabs,
and finally use a deadblow rubber mallet to roll the edges to fit the
contour of the bars on the car. |
|
Billet lights on the top of the cage will make for easy night rides |
|
Mike also fabbed a very neat intercooler using two DSM cores. It should
work very well for his blow-through setup |
|
Here's another shot of the intercooler. The end tanks are from the DSM
intercooler, and the center tank was fabbed by mike. The turbo will blow
into the center hole and then out the end tanks into the dual carbs. |
